Ex-Chelsea star Mikel Obi has urged his former club to part ways with one of their star players, who has failed to deliver.
Chelsea icon John Obi Mikel has shared his honest opinion on Christopher Nkunku’s time at Stamford Bridge, suggesting the French forward must be sent packing this summer.
Nkunku’s £52 million move from RB Leipzig in 2023 was greeted by huge excitement, with fans and analysts expecting the versatile forward to shine in the Premier League.
However, injuries have plagued his time at Chelsea, and even when fit, the former Bundesliga standout hasn’t consistently delivered.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Mikel admitted he was initially thrilled about Nkunku’s arrival but now believes it’s time for a change.
“Christopher Nkunku should also be a source of goals, but honestly, I think his time at the club is now done.
“I genuinely think he needs to move on,” Mikel said.
“There was a lot of hype about him when he joined from Leipzig. I was so excited when he arrived, but his time at Chelsea hasn’t panned out well.”
Chelsea have completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich and are chasing a new forward after returning Jadon Sancho to Manchester United. To that effect, the Blues have prepared a new bid for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as Borussia Dortmund demand €70m.
